At The Foust Group, we’re proud to handle surface preparation and coatings for the U.S. Navy’s Near Coastal Patrol Vessel (NCPV) program. Our team works closely with shipbuilders to deliver a new fleet of advanced aluminum patrol boats, making sure every vessel meets the Navy’s strict performance standards.

So far, we’ve finished seven vessels and have three more in the works. Our process includes abrasive blasting the entire exterior hull and superstructure, then applying marine-grade coatings made specifically from aluminum.

Working on these vessels means facing a few challenges. Aluminum hulls require a very gentle touch when blasting, and much of the work happens at high elevations, so safety is always front and center. We have to stay flexible, especially with government shutdowns occasionally pausing our progress, but our team always picks up right where we left off.

We’re AMP QP1 Certified, and we handle all the QA/QC documentation and inspections alongside both shipyard and Navy staff. By using controlled-environment tents for blasting and painting, we can maintain compliance with EPA, DEQ, and Navy environmental standards regardless of the weather outside.

Thanks to our commitment to quality and reliability, we are proud to continue our partnership with the Navy. Their eighth boat is set for completion in November, followed by Boats 9 and 10.
